In Swabian there are some saying in use which refer to food or can be applied to it. Some of these might be translates as follows: “The hunger forces it in, disgust forces it down, and parsimony keeps it in.”, “What the farmer doesn’t know, he doesn’t eat.” and “not grumbling is enough praise.” You can find in all of these sayings a negative undertone, but we are not like that. Or let’s better put it this way, only a few of us are. The Swabian basically is ingenious, likes to puzzel and knows everything except standard German. (The last part is a adverting slogan of Baden-Württemberg: We know everything except standard German).
As a representative of the Swabian species I want to share with you my view about food and pleasure. Some of the things I will write about are my experiences when trying out new recipes, good tasting or interesting recipes, books about this topic, dishes I tried, which are out of the ordinary, and anything else which might fit this topic. For me, this is the place to write about it.
But I should mention, I’m not a professional chef, a well know restaurant or book critic or a barkeeper. I spend my daytime juggling with bits and bytes, but in my spare time I enjoy reading cook books, trying out new recipes, experimenting and creating new dishes, and invting friends to enjoy the results. I’m just a normal guy who wants to share his love for cooking, eating and feating in a group with others.
